Roberto Rochin


Roberto was born and raised in Mexico, establishing himself as an award-winning filmmaker as well as an innovative and foremost specialist in the areas of animation, visual effects, and motion control. He spent years making the seminal feature documentary Ulama: The Game of Life and Death (1986) and was the co-author of an accompanying book. He also directed the IMAX Documentary Mystery of the Mayas (Mexico, 1995). Rochin wrote, produced and directed Purgatorio (Purgatory, Mexico, 2009) which was adapted from Juan Rolfo’s short stories, Paso Del Norte (Northern Passage, Mexico, 2002), and Pedazo De Noche (A Piece of The Night, Mexico, 1995). He co-produced In Sosten (Sans Support, Mexico, 1998), Hasta Los Huesos (To The Bone, Mexico, 2001), and Invasion A Planeta Mercurio (Invasion of Planet Mercury, Mexico, 2003). In 2013 he released an interactive version of the Mesoamerican Ball game for PC, IPhone, and Ipad--see link below. His current projects include: Untitled Mexican Revolution Project, and Janis Joplin's Lover, a film adaptation of the Elmer Mendoza novel of the same title. He is also developing a feature filmed based on the Pre-Hispanic game and the legend of Popol Vuh.
